Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Bangkok & Finishing: Bangkok
Welcome to Thailand. Bangkok is a heady mixture of ancient traditions and slick modernity, where bustling bazaars and world-class cuisine are only the beginning. An airport arrival transfer is included, please provide your flight details at the time of booking, or no later than 14 days prior to travel. Once you have provided your details a transfer representative will be booked to meet you and transfer you to your hotel. Your local guide will meet and greet you at the hotel upon your arrival, where they will give you some tips on how to spend your first day exploring and the best place for dinner. With your free time, perhaps acquaint yourself with this colourful and frenetic city of tuk tuks and traditional khlong boats winding down the Chao Phraya River by tucking into world famous street food.
Day 2 - Starting: Bangkok & Finishing: Bangkok
Your exploration of the Bangkok continues with a city tour today. Get in early to avoid the big crowds at one of the ‘must-sees’ – the Grand Palace. This sprawling complex houses numerous ornate structures that highlight the grand architectural traditions of Thailand. Just some of the stunning buildings are the Great Chakari Palace, Phra Mondhop, decorated with stunning glass mosaics, and an impressive miniature replica of Angkor Wat. Inside Wat Phra Kaew (Temple of the Emerald Buddha) are intricate murals, an exquisite solid gold statue of Buddha, and supposedly a relic of bone of the enlightened Buddha. You’ll also cross over the road to Wat Pho, one of the ‘trinity’ of Bangkok temples, with a 46-metre long gold plated Buddha reclining inside. Even the feet of this statue are incredible, three metres long and intricately decorated with mother of pearl. The temple grounds are equally fascinating, filled with beautifully decorated stupas, halls, and shrines. In your free time this afternoon you might choose to visit the chaotic tourist mecca of Khao San Road, take a riverboat to Chinatown and explore the crowded streets, or have a relaxing Thai massage. Finish the day with an evening river cruise down the famous ‘khlongs’ (canals) through the heart of Bangkok with dinner included. Life along these canals seems a world away from the chaotic streets of the capital. Please see important information in the "packing"' section of the trip notes regarding strict dress code for the Grand Palace visit.
