Itinerary
Day 1 - Starting: Bogotá & Finishing: Bogotá
Your adventure will begin with an orientation meeting at 6pm, where you will your guide and fellow travel companions. Please check with reception for details regarding the meeting. Bogota sits on a plateau 2,640 metres above sea level and has over seven million inhabitants, making it one of the largest cities at altitude in the world.
Day 2 - Starting: Bogota & Finishing: Bogota
Embark on a city tour of Bogota. This surprisingly cosmopolitan city has an abundance of cafes, museums and old churches, making it a delight to explore. Visit the Paloquemao Market, the Gold Museum and the Botero art museum. You will also spend some time exploring on your own, perhaps ride up the gondola on Cerro de Monserrate to see the 17th century church that looks out over the expansive metropolis below, or visit the Museo Nacional.
Day 3 - Starting: Salento & Finishing: Salento
Fly to Armenia and transfer to Salento. Stroll the colourful streets of this picturesque town in Colombia's coffee zone. Enjoy the breathtaking mountain views and sample some local food. Trout, prepared in several different ways, is highly recommended.
Day 4 - Starting: Cocora Valley/Coffee Estancia & Finishing: Cocora Valley/Coffee Estancia
In the morning, we will visit the Cocora Valley tour and experience the magic of the giant wax palms, Colombia's national symbol. Spend the morning walking among the breathtaking scenery and if you're feeling active there's time to hike up to Acaime Reserve where colourful hummingbirds come to feed. In the afternoon you'll transfer to a traditional coffee estancia for a unique opportunity to learn first hand about the ins and outs of this industry that catapulted the country's economy during the last century. The farm is situated in a particularly remote and beautiful part of the world.
Day 5 - Starting: Coffee Estancia & Finishing: Coffee Estancia
Enjoy a tour of the coffee plantation and processing center, take the opportunity to sample different types of coffee grains as well as learn to prepare different types of coffees.
Day 6 - Starting: Medellin & Finishing: Medellin
Transfer to Medellin, Colombia's second largest city. Having spent the 1980s and 90s with an international reputation as one of the world's most dangerous cities thanks to Pablo Escobar's infamous drug cartel, Medellin has turned itself around to become one of the most exciting cities in South America. And with some of the country's finest museums, parks and architecture as well as a much safer and comfortable atmosphere, it's easy to see why more and more travellers have flocked to the city in the past few years. Embark on a city tour in the afternoon.
Day 7 - Starting: Medellin & Finishing: Medellin
Medellin is famous for it's colourful flowers and the surrounding mountains are home to many flower farms. Today we'll head to the hills and visit one of them.
Day 8 - Starting: Koralia Beach & Finishing: Koralia Beach
You will fly north to reach Santa Marta and then travel by minivan to Playa Koralia, tucked onto a stunning and quiet stretch of the Caribbean coastline. You will have two days to suck up the beauty of this veritable paradise, from lazing on the beach to hiking to secret waterfalls and fresh water pools.
Day 9 - Starting: Koralia Beach & Finishing: Koralia Beach
Enjoy a free day relaxing in this beautiful location.
Day 10 - Starting: Tayrona National Park/Koralia Beach & Finishing: Tayrona National Park/Koralia Beach
You will also have the option to visit Tayrona National Park while you're here, a place boasting surreal landscapes and one of the highest coastal mountain ranges in the world, the Sierra Nevada de Santa Maria. You can hike through jungle trails to reach completely untouched Caribbean beaches, and discover the beauty of this incredibly biologically diverse landscape. Look out for dusky titi monkeys, red squirrels and over 200 species of birds, along with collared peccaries an perhaps an elusive jaguar or two. Relaxing on the palm fringed white sandy beach will be a highlight of your time here.
Day 11 - Starting: Cartagena & Finishing: Cartagena
You will leave your tropical oasis and travel to Cartagena by minivan today (approximately 5 hours). Cartagena was named a Unesco World Heritage Site in 1980 thanks to its spectacular walls and fortress. The city was a major centre for Spanish settlement in the Americas, and the walls were built to protect its shipping and slave trade from pirates.
Day 12 - Starting: Cartagena & Finishing: Cartagena
Also while you are in Cartegena you will have a walking tour of the old city and a visit to the bustling Bazurto Market. You'll also have the option to visit San Felipe de Barajas Fortress or travel out of town to relax in the mud bath at Volcan de Lodo El Totumo.
Day 13 - Starting: Cartagena & Finishing: Cartagena
Your tour will come to an end today after breakfast.
